The #MTBoS

I have an awesome group of math teachers that I regularly collaborate with via email, twitter, facebook, blogs, you name it. They are crazy supportive and I have learned an insane amount from them. To learn more about this community, you can read some of my posts that center around blogging and communicating online with math teachers.

If you want to learn more about this online community of teachers, which has gained the unwieldy acronym “math twitter blog o sphere” (MTBoS), you can check out this Welcome to the Mathtwitterblogosphere website that I made (with a lot of help from friends). It is a gentle introduction to who we are, what we’ve done, and how to get involved. In the past, I’ve led two different initiatives to spread the word about our community. In 2012, I designed and hosted a “Math Blogging Initiation” to help teachers who needed a nudge start their own blog. Then in 2013, three friends and I hosted an “Explore the Mathtwitterblogosphere” to help teachers utilize the resources created by members of the online math teacher community. (Original post.)

This community now has an annual gathering called TwitterMathCamp. My reflections about TMC are here: 2012, 2013, 2014

Here is a short introduction I gave about this community to my department (5/12/2015 Department Meeting).

    1. I don’t know… Probably not in the near future. But if you want to just try it yourself now, you can set up a blog and use the prompts yourself!!! I know, it’s not as “exciting” but it is still pretty exciting!
